Yonge Hearts is a non-profit child care centre which has operated in North York since 1989.
We are licensed to care for children from birth to five years of age.
Yonge Hearts serves the employees of the City of Toronto,
Toronto Boards of Education, Toronto Library, as well as families in the community.
At YHCCC we are proud to work closely with the families enrolled, to provide a warm, nurturing and safe environment for the children. The staff and I are proud to be involved in their early learning where we enjoy watching them learn through play. We can see friendships blossoming, hear their laughter as they play, and the endless chatter between peers and with their teachers. Providing excellent care goes beyond providing excellent programming. It takes heart to provide that special place for children – and we have it here at Yonge Hearts Child Care Centre.
As a parent, I have been thrilled not only with the care of the centre’s staff, but the families that rally around Yonge Hearts. Annual events like the holiday pot luck or summer fair give parents the chance to build a network that cultivates friendships and strengthens ties in our community. For the kids, this also makes the centre feel less like child care and more like home.Markus
We have been part of the Yonge Hearts family since 2011. We have two children who have had an amazing experience at the centre. Each started off in the Infant room and progressed to the Toddler and Preschool rooms. The environment fostered at Yonge Hearts is one of learning, positive reinforcement and shared experiences. Each staff member takes extra care to provide an environment of growth for the children. They focus on meaningful communication with the children, staff and parents, all with a child-centric environment which focuses on their development and growth. The children are encouraged to participate in experiential learning experiences on field trips, family BBQs, holiday parties, summer programming and visits from community helpers and special guests. The staff and director are among the best in their fields and welcome the children each day with positivity, a warm smile and inclusion.
I have recommended the centre to many young families and will continue to do so.Megan Boyle
Our daughter came to Yonge Hearts Childcare Centre when she was 12 months old in “infant room “. The staff from the beginning took good care of her. She was a very picky eater and they slowly worked with her to eat more variety of food. She is now 3.5 years old and in “Preschool 3”. Part of who she is, is because of the staff at Yonge Hearts who patiently worked with her and taught her. The administration of Yonge Hearts does a wonderful job keeping the center operations running efficiently and smoothly to ensure the best development of all the children who attend. We both ( as well as our daughter ) are going to miss the center and the staff when she leaves. They have been such a big part of her life. Nasim
Our children have been fortunate enough to have spent the last three (3) years at Yonge Hearts. The high quality of the curriculum is matched by the calibre of the staff. While in the infant and toddler rooms, we received daily written reports on what our children were up to, including their meals. We are and continue to be amazed at our children’s development over the past three (3) years, much of which is attributable to what they have learned at Yonge Hearts. The parents and children also make a huge difference. The culture can be summed up in the words etched in the walkway to the front door: “[Alice] knelt down and looked along the passage into the loveliest garden you ever saw.” We have no hesitation recommending Yonge Hearts to any parent. As part of providing a quality program we are following the regulations of the Child Care and Early Years Act 2014. How Does Learning Happen? Ontario’s Pedagogy for the Early Years 2014 (HDLH) is used as a guideline for licensed child care programs. HDLH views children as competent, capable, curious and rich in potential. The foundations of learning are belonging, well-being, engagement and expression. For more information on this please go to http://www.edu.gov.on.ca/childcare/pedagogy.html.
At Yonge Hearts we believe that children learn through play. It is through play that they have the opportunity to initiate their own experiences, engage in communication with their peers and staff and explore different materials provided in the environment. Yonge Hearts has the following goals and approaches to meeting the needs of all the children in the centre:
